My thoughts on 11
I'll be the good Doctor Who fan and put this under a cut in case anyone doesn't want to know who the new Doctor's going to be.
I'm not impressed one iota. It had to have been an earth shattering audition. Cause I for one am not seeing it. I just... I have very little faith in him. And he's soooo young. I know the Doctor gets younger with regenerations, but dear God the boy looks 16 not 26. I am just not holding out any hope that this is going to work. And usually I can play devils advocate. But here there's no way for me to.
I don't think it's just that I love Tennant as the Doctor. Cause honestly I could have warmed up to whoever they cast. But I don't see myself warming up to this Matt Smith guy. Not gonna happen. I said yesterday that it was going to hinge on Jack. Then last night talking to one of my friends I realized that if JB can make me see him as the Doctor then the JB deserves some kind of award.
I keep thinking we're screwed. He just looks wrong to me. CE I saw as the Doctor. David I definitely saw as the Doctor, they just had something that screamed Doctor to me. But the new guy doesn't. And it's more than just that his Dad had to tell him about Tom Baker. Which in and of itself is worrisome.
Yes CE wasn't a fan. But he at least had a knowledge of Doctor Who on certain levels. He knew about the Daleks the Cybermen and the regenerations. But as I said above, his Dad had to tell him who Tom Baker was! I also realize he's got six months to learn all of the history. But considering he's also going to have lines to learn, and interviews to give, and wardrobe fittings as well, I don't see where the Doctor History lessons are going to be able to fit in.
Someone said he was going to talk to David. But from what I could tell it wasn't for a crash course in Doctor. It was for a crash course on being the Doctor. And dealing with all the hoopla. Oh how I wish it were the latter.
So as of right now, I have no confidence in this being good at all. I know Steven Moffatt is a brilliant writer. He gave us Jack Harkness and Blink so in my book that makes him brilliant. But the words on the page are only as good as the actor who plays the part.
I just don't see this as good. Right now, my initial reaction is UGH. We're totally screwed.. I have decided he gets one ep. If I'm not sold after one ep, then I will be quite happy just sticking to my Classic Doctor and Series 1-4 boxsets for my whofix. If that makes me a bad Who fan then so be it.
And one more thing, NO SPECS. Please God no specs.
One other thing. Give the boy a hair cut please.
